On August 25th, the 2025 China–UK Undergraduate Field Study and Research Training Program on Integrated Circuits and Advanced Manufacturing, initiated by the Undergraduate Education Office of Nanjing University and co-organized by the School of Electronic Science and Engineering and the School of Integrated Circuits, successfully completed all scheduled sessions and returned safely to Nanjing University from the University of Cambridge.
Building on this cooperative foundation, the 2025 program leveraged the world-class research and teaching resources of the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Centered on key electronic information technologies such as microelectronics and integrated circuits, with the theme of 'AI-Enabled Optimization Applications for Electronic Systems,' the summer field study course integrated online and offline teaching methods. It aimed to broaden students' horizons of international cutting-edge technologies, enhance their interdisciplinary innovation capabilities at the intersection of artificial intelligence and electronic systems, and cultivate top-notch international innovative talents.
In addition, the program featured a dedicated industry connection session, organizing teachers and students to visit the Cambridge headquarters of ARM Holdings. During the visit, they gained in-depth insights into the latest trends in global chip design and the development of the semiconductor industry.
During the two-week intensive program, students conducted in-depth research on five cutting-edge topics, including sparse event-driven instance segmentation, lightweight image classification systems, and AI-empowered integrated circuit manufacturing. The innovative achievements they produced were highly praised by experts from both China and the UK. Adopting a 'dual-mentor model' consisting of academic supervisors and industry mentors, the program effectively bridged the gap between theoretical learning and industrial practice, fostering a cohort of interdisciplinary innovative talents with a global outlook.
